Trading Standards Service

Trading Standards for Consumers

Our principal role is to enforce legislation designed to protect both consumers and traders. Initial advice to consumers who are in dispute with a trader is now the responsibility of the Citizens Advice Consumer Service.

We generally only become involved if the dispute is complex or if it reveals a breach of the criminal law. We give priority to vulnerable consumers.

On these pages we aim to provide consumers with the information they need to avoid problems occurring in the first place, and to advise what action consumers can take to resolve a dispute.
